This week is all about the “other white meat”. You can purchase pork loin for under $2 per lb or pork chops for under $1 per lb. The price of peaches keeps coming down and with baking ingredients on sale this week we decided that the perfect “economy vacation” meal using grocery sales items for the week would come from my mom and from Joan (Cooks.com).
This week, make Brandied Apples and Pork served with Warm Peach Cobbler and Vanilla Ice Cream. It will cost you under $7!
Below find the link to this week’s Phoenix Grocery Sale list by grocery store as well as these yummy recipes. You can print out your grocery list right from the file and plan your grocery budget for the week. By using this list, by husband and I saved over $100 last week alone, by sticking to only the sale items. (It’s fun to watch the grocery clerks eyes bug out when you check out and they read off your total savings.) You have to have some fun while unemployed… and only have the grocery store as your big “date” out for the week.

This week offers some amazing deals on picnic and cookout items at local Phoenix grocery stores. It’s a perfect time to stock up on some items that you can cook at your holiday outings this weekend as well as freeze for use later in the next few weeks. Since this is a time to spend with family and friends to celebrate our Independence Day, our recipes this week are from our own family recipe vault. For about $10, you can make fall off the bone BBQ ribs served with chilled broccoli salad for a family of four (and still have some extras to share with other cookout guests).

When I first moved to Arizona I resented having to buy water. Then I discovered that you can go to Circle K or Walgreens with your own gallon jug and for 25 cents (10 years ago) you could get a gallon of reverse osmosis water. Much better than the 89 cents per gallon that I currently buy… you see, I don’t have a water filtration system. I can’t cook or make tea or coffee with the tap water. I think I go through around 4 gallons (at least) of water each week. Just went and bought water yesterday. Well, being on an “economy vacation” myself, I remembered this cost savings tip and researched the current prices. I found that Circle K still charges 25 cents for 1 gallon, $1.00 for 5 gallons (or 20 cents each). They have “Glacier” water. So, I am going to use this cost savings method to help save a little each month.
FROM ANGELA & ERIN:
Wow! Thanks Barbara. Definitely every bit helps. So, using Barbara’s tip, you could save as much as $133 per year (4 gallons per week usage, 64 cent savings per gallon at 52 weeks per year). Note to our vacationers outside of AZ, please check out your local convenient stores to see if they have this special offer.
