Monday, June 29th, 2009“Save $133 per year on water” submitted by Barbara of Phoenix, AZ
Friday, June 26th, 2009When I first moved to Arizona I resented having to buy water. Then I discovered that you can go to Circle K or Walgreens with your own gallon jug and for 25 cents (10 years ago) you could get a gallon of reverse osmosis water. Much better than the 89 cents per gallon that I currently buy… you see, I don’t have a water filtration system. I can’t cook or make tea or coffee with the tap water. I think I go through around 4 gallons (at least) of water each week. Just went and bought water yesterday. Well, being on an “economy vacation” myself, I remembered this cost savings tip and researched the current prices. I found that Circle K still charges 25 cents for 1 gallon, $1.00 for 5 gallons (or 20 cents each). They have “Glacier” water. So, I am going to use this cost savings method to help save a little each month.
FROM ANGELA & ERIN:
Wow! Thanks Barbara. Definitely every bit helps. So, using Barbara’s tip, you could save as much as $133 per year (4 gallons per week usage, 64 cent savings per gallon at 52 weeks per year). Note to our vacationers outside of AZ, please check out your local convenient stores to see if they have this special offer.

Phoenix Clipper Tuesdays: Vol 1
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009Phoenix, AZ (Week of June 10-June 16, 2009):
So with all this extra time on my hands and little money in my pocket to do things outside the home, going to the grocery store has become one of the “big outings” for the week. It was never something I enjoyed prior to meeting my husband. I would be called a “mission shopper”… get in and get out. I would even make the grocery list in the order of the aisles so I could speed up the process. Now, with my free time, and with him by my side, we actually browse or today, the equivalent of window shopping unless it’s “on the list”.
So speaking of list, this is my theme for Tuesday’s blog. Introducing Phoenix Clipper Tuesdays. Maybe you remember the days–or at least heard of them–you know the days when your mom would clip coupons, read sales papers and plan the week’s meals. No, I am not exactly talking June Cleaver, but there is something to be learned from planning. In fact, it can help you save money during these economy vacation days. I thought I would use my organization skills for the greater good and share with you a list of some hot sales by some our local retailers. In addition, some recipes to incorporate some of your grocery deals. Goal: Save money and have some fun cooking.
Each week, an excel file will be attached to the blog that provides a listing by store of the best deals. Although some stores may be advertising similar specials of the same product, only the items that are the cheapest will appear. I have also had some fun categorizing “why should I buy” this product. Foods will be marked if they are included in the weekly recipes, if they are good items to keep in the pantry (use later), if they are healthy and/or if they are a guilty pleasure (c’mon, we need something!) On the first tab will be some recipes utlizing some of the sale items.
This is a trial, so would love your feedback and suggestions. If you see a deal or have a good recipe, please share.
Bon apetit fellow economy vacationers!
Sincerely,
Angela
